PHILOSOPHY

Our facility was founded on the belief that fitness starts from the inside out. It’s not all about bulging biceps and six-packs. It’s about training your body to be a stronger, more efficient machine by teaching it how to move better. Get in the right mental and physical space to do amazing things. Forming the good habits and muscle memory needed to combat chronic pain, aches and all the plagues of our sedentary lifestyle. And it’s about doing things right – no shortcuts, cop-outs, or bad form.

Tristan


Head Instructor & Program Director

A relentless pursuit of knowledge is the key driver to Tristan’s reputation as a nationally respected “trainer’s trainer,” but it’s the combination of continuous improvement, boundless energy and unbridled passion for improving the lives of those around him that truly distinguish him in his 15 years in the fitness industry.

Tristan’s deep commitment to helping his clients reach a higher quality of life and standard of health is the sole reason he is so uniquely dedicated to attending strength training workshops nationwide on a regular basis, to better ensure that members receive nothing but the most ahead-of-the-curve instruction and benefit from all of the latest—and safest—developments in the fitness world.

The first trainer to receive Primal MoveTM certification in New York, Tristan has also been named an Original Strength Specialist, an elite designation for leaders in a powerful and growing movement emphasizing the restoration of natural mobility, resiliency and strength. In addition, he holds a fourth-degree black sash in kung fu, with expertise in advanced techniques and multiple weapons, and highly coveted RKC, SFG and CK-FMS kettlebell certifications, creating a diverse professional background that supports his mission of changing lives one inspirational workout at a time, bringing the joy back into movement.

James


Personal Trainer

The art and science of strength training has long fascinated James, who has dedicated his entire life to the optimization of physical movement and to learning voraciously about how to better the lives of those around him, from helping people build muscle and attain peak physical fitness to simply facilitating their day-to-day challenges.

He found his calling at only 19 years of age, and motivated by his desire to educate and help people, James achieved a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from Adelphi University and quickly earned the title of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Fueled by passion, drive and sheer determination to excel in his field, he went on to attain certification in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), CPR and first aid. Now, in order to serve his clients even better, he continues to hone his skills and grow his knowledge by participating in various workshops throughout the region.

James’s doctrine of dedication, hard work and strength of will has served as an inspiration for those he teaches, while his education and emphasis on fine-tuning physical form ensures safety and effectiveness in every workout.

Personal Trainer

For Chris, training with weights has been a part of his life for the better part of two decades. However, what makes him so incredibly unique is that even beneath his confidence and wealth of experience, he remains ever humble and continues to seek further education from the masters of the fitness world in order to bring that knowledge back to his clients.

Chris’s dynamic and evolutionary approach to fitness is what led him to kettlebell training over six years ago, a method he is excited to share with the people whose lives he touches. Since he was introduced to kettlebells, he has become HKC-, RKC-, SFG- and SFG II-certified, all of which go hand-in-hand with his FMS (link to Functional Movement Screening page) and Primal MoveTM certifications. Plus, to further build on his elite qualifications, the near future also includes achieving certification for SFL and SFB.

Although Chris often seeks to be the student when among experts, he is also considered one of them. A part of the Original Strength movement, he has been invited to assist at Level 1 beginning in 2014, and will be instructing an SF Bodyweight Course this coming spring, sharing his formidable knowledge with fitness enthusiasts in New England.

Graduate to the Intermediate level of Kettlebell Training, or challenge the limits of what you thought you could do with Tactical Strength. No matter what you choose from our flexible schedule, you’ll quickly be on your way to looking and feeling like a badass. And the best part? All of our classes are intentionally kept small, freeing up our exceptional instructors to focus on YOU.

PSNY’s required Kettlebell Introduction series lets our instructors focus on your alignment and posture so that you can get cut—not hurt.

Here, you’ll learn the basics of proper technique, from the right way to carry weight of any kind to pulling off a perfect plank. Once movements have been mastered, you’ll have the opportunity to test out and “graduate” to the Fundamentals classes.

KETTLEBELL FUNDAMENTALS

This second level is designed to refine and build upon the exercises learned in the Introduction to Kettlebells series.

These sessions take your progress to a new level as you master goblet squats, deadlifts, kettlebell swings, Turkish get-ups, rows and loaded carries. Bodyweight exercises round out the program for a full workout that unlocks strength and builds power and grace in your movements.

Bootcamp

Stay engaged as you replace fat with muscle. From battle ropes to weights and medicine balls to power squats, this total body conditioning will leave you breathless and exhilarated every time.

High-intensity interval training at its best, this class focuses on metabolic conditioning while incorporating elements of our certified Primal Move™ program and the Original Strength movement to help you retrain your body to move the way it’s engineered to while sculpting it to look the way you want.

PRIMAL ATHLETE CLASS

Children today aren’t moving the way they used to, and it’s no wonder. Their entire day is spent sitting in school, or sitting and texting, playing video games, or browsing the web when they’re out of class. Even student athletes spend most of their time sedentary. A direct effect of this lack of movement is a tight anterior chain, weak posterior chain, joint asymmetries, poor flexibility, and vulnerability to injury. The rise in ACL issues and torn meniscuses is directly related to this change in lifestyle, and we at PSNY address it.
